SINGAPORE — The recent protests by ride-hailing drivers in Singapore have brought to light a disturbing new development in the modern workplace: the abdication of human authority to the "AI-Manager." While the protesters focus on their immediate grievances regarding pay and dispatch, the deeper issue is the systemic erosion of human hierarchy and the loss of the vital quality of human judgement.

The "AI-Manager" represents the pinnacle of technocratic hubris. By replacing flesh-and-blood supervisors with complex mathematical models, companies are attempting to create a perfectly efficient, frictionless workforce. But in doing so, they have created a tyranny of the machine—a system where the nuance of individual circumstance is sacrificed on the altar of data-set optimisation. There is no appeal to reason when your boss is a line of code.
